Another country with a strong tradition of beekeeping is Ethiopia.
Large amounts of honey are produced and used for brewing honey beer (tej) prized as the national drink. Working with our local partners we
have established an alternative market, competing with the Tej traders.
The result is highly beneficial for the beekeepers who now have a
market for as much honey as they want to produce at prices that are stable throughout the year. The beekeepers have responded by producing
far more honey to supply both markets.
Our honey comes from the rainforest covered hills of South West Ethiopia, from Schefflera abysinica, a
large forest tree producing a delicately-flavoured floral honey.
